What this project is and why I'm doing it
On October 16, 2017, I started the journey of documenting my process as I wrote letters to the world via art, words, and songs. As a singer-writer, author, and artist, this has always been how I created art for years:
1. I thought of someone's story
2. I wrote something just for them
3. I shared it with the world in hopes that at least one other person could relate as well.
But the difference that October 16, 2017 made was that I decided to document and share this process with the world, by writing/making something for people individually, as they submitted their stories. I was overwhelmed by the response on that day, but I haven't looked back since. In general I have a really hard time charging for what I create because I really do see it all as individuals letters and gifts to the world, and giving these away just made sense to me. And somehow, people have been so generous to donate to help me keep going, and so many have been inspired to even start their own projects like this. To me, that's what it's all about. I make art to inspire others to tell their story.
As far as this blog is concerned, I didn't decide to start documenting here on the blog until a month later, but I figured it would be a good idea to start it now instead of later. So here we go: post by post, I will share the journey here. They may get a little out of order from time to time, but I hope you enjoy reading them.
So far, over 3,000 people have shared their stories with me, and it is my mission to eventually make/write something for every single person, with the ultimate goal of someday, in my lifetime, having had the opportunity to make/write something for 1 million stores.
Needless to say, I will be working on this for a while...which makes me so excited about it. Here we go.
